Metallica on Geocities!
If you haven't heard, Geocities is closing on October 26, 2009. Geocities has played an important role in the history of the Metallica fandom. On Fan History Wiki, we want to help chronicle the history of this fandom on Geocities before it is lost forever. We'd love to have you involved.

We've created some stub articles at Metallica fansites on Geocities. There isn't much there, especially when you think about the whole of Geocities and how important Geocities was to the Metallica fandom. We'd really want to see the few existing articles improved to give a better idea of what role they played early in the fandom's history and for the fandom's history off LiveJournal. Just click edit, write in relevant information and then click save. You can't screw it up. (It's a wiki. Things are incredibily easy to fix if you're worried.) If you're feeling really helpful, please use Template:fansitesgeocities to create new articles so that we can get the history of more Geocitie's Metallica fansites saved.

Even if you aren't editing, please pass the word along to others in the fandom. Ask them to help us. Ask them to visit Geocities to just save those sites on their hard drives. If you're a fan fiction reader, check out some of those stories from the fandom before they disappear potentially forever.

Anyone interested in buying some Metallica Stuff? I'm cleaning out my storage and as much as I loved Metallica in the past I want to get rid of it to someone who can care for it.

I have tons of bootleg concerts, some even with cliff but mainly its all early And justice for all and early black album, nothing later

got all the home made movies.....singles, cds, tapes, even 2 killem all w/ blitz and am I evil?

I got the original Garage Days INC tape....I dont even think u can still find it...not the new ones they made, the real one

also got plenty of tshirts

Entire Magazines filled with nothing but metallica, and SO WHAT books from the Metallica Club when it first came out....I was in there for the first cple of years. I have tons of other stuff.....just hit me back and let me know before I sell it elsewhere.

This stuff you can't find anymore....I was a hell of a collector haha

take care

Metallica took part in a press conference on June 13, 2006 prior to their concert at Tallinn Song Festival Grounds in Estonia.

On the subject of the progress of the songwriting sessions for the band's new album, guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield said, "It coming along exactly as it should. We're not rushing too much. [We're] taking our time. We want this to be just really good. [Laughs] [We're] sifting through not only… Well, in the old days, we had a riff tape, a cassette each. You know, 'Here's my ideas.' When we were on tour [in support of 'St. Anger'], the [jam sessions in] rehearsal rooms were recorded, so we had about 15 CDs filled — and that wasn't even all of them — of filtered, good basis for songs. So we have a lot of material, which is better than the other way around. So we have a lot to go through and pick out the best. We're going to be [at it] a little while. Rick Rubin is the producer, who's done very amazing things with people, and especially bands that have … think they've gotten as far as they can, he comes in and shows them again what made them what they are and why, and brings them to their roots in a different way. So we're pretty excited about his input."

hi!!!
All greetings! I the newcomer therefore at once I want to be presented: my name is Peter Suitkin, me of 18 years, I listen Metallica 7 years. Itself I play on a guitar (lead) but I am at times involved in various teams as the sessional musician to play on bass, lead, less often - a rhythm.
My first album Metallica-Kill'em all, to me of it was given by the friend. First I "heard" only music, then only voice, and now I hear and I feel (!) all together and it is healthy!
Most of all I love the first 4 albums, the others it is less, and St. Anger than me, I admit have disappointed:
1) I like solo;
2) Where there returning to sources?
So... all greetings, listen MetallicA and metall up your ass!!!!!

Info Request
I have a question for the Metallica fans:

Assuming you own every full-length album and DIDN't have any of the EP's, which titles would you most want to go out and buy first, and why? I'm trying to pick up something for my boyfriend but I'm unfamiliar with the discography and have no idea where to start.

So, come on, metal heads. Which EP do you recommend?

I don't know about you...
I don't jump up and down when someone mentions the name Metallica.
I don't fantasize about any of the Metallica members.
I do however foam at the mouth and want to kill people when I hear Battery.
I do hit trash cans and pedestrians when I hear Master of Puppets in my car.
I have won a fistfight because Justice for all came on the jukebox.
I consider myself a true fan of the patron saints of Metal.
So rock on and fuck it all.

Yo
Hey guys, I just joined. I've been listening to Metallica since i was 7, my cousin gave me the Black Album, and i saw the video One on tv, I was just headbanging hours to this. I love every album, but St. Anger is the weakest in my opinion. I play bass, I was in two other bands before. I startied playing bass when I saw Cliff play live on TV, it was performed in '85, it was awesome. My name is Uli, nobody calls me by my real name, so I wont say what it is.

Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs of All Time
As with all Rolling Stone 'greatest' lists, this one is a little suspect, but Metallica made the list (barely) with Enter Sandman at 399. I would have thought Master of Puppets before Sandman, or both, but I guess not.

Also in the issue, Het lists his top 10 and why:

10. The Boys are Back in Town - Thin Lizzy: Phil Lynott was never afraid to write from the heart, even if it was a litle corny. Thin Lizzy inspired a lot of Metallica's guitar harmonies.

9. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana: When all that Eighties hair metal was getting overproduced, Nirvana come along with this trashy garage sound and a huge hook. It was what music needed.

8. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath: This song scared the shit out of me. It's beyond heavy.

7. Yesterday - The Beatles: It instantly connected with me. It makes you think, but not too hard.

6. God Only Knows - The Beach Boys: I got on a Beach Boys kick again about six months ago. I grew up in Southern California; to me, this song speaks to a higher power.

5. Candle in the Wind - Elton John: "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting" was more my style, but few songs can top this melody.

4. Behind Blue Eyes - The Who: This song had all that teen angst bubbling under it. It's about asking for help but not really wanting it. Reminds me a lot of me.

3. Jailhouse Rock - Elvis: I remember seeing that video of him jumping around behind bars with all his buddies. It encapsulates rebellion, which is really just misguided creativity.

2. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepplin: When I first got a guitar, I figured out the first couple of fingerings to this, and I ran around the house saying "Check it out - I can play this!" My family was like, "Where's the rest of the song?"

1. Free Bird - Lynard Skynard: Nothing tops this workingman's ballad. "Free Bird" fit my life for the first twenty years on the road - not really getting too attached to stuff, living life for the moment and moving on.

At least James wasn't like Brian Wilson, whose list included mostly Beach Boys songs. Get over yourself, dumbass...

Broken Dollie
I look at broken dolls sitting on the shelf
No smiles left to gaze upon,I'll curl up on the window sill with a book of ghosts, hold onto broken dollie.
Ive grown so old and so has Dollie.
The dusty curtains go right through my face.
My eyes are just like the curtains, worn, thin, but still sane.
My innocence is like tainted glass.
I can pretend but it wont last.
I cant erase the past. Dollie cant erase the past.
Dollie wants to kill me,she's been in my attic for years.
"Ive been in his" I try to explain.
But there really is no reason to abandon anything.
Dollie tells me how she was stuffed in a dusty trunk. I tell her "So was i!"
"Well thats no excuse" she says "Because dollies cant cry"
She is right. I mourned in my dust covered trunk.
She sat there silently as her painted smile faded off.
Dollie's in her train now and I'm tied to the tracks.
Oh how i wish I could take those years back.
I have you on my railroad tracks,I signal for the conductor to go.
I have you tied on the tracks, she has me tied on the tracks.
And dollie has a show.
